Yes. HCC Medical Coding is designed for HIPAA compliance from the ground up. All data is encrypted at rest and in transit. PHI is processed in secure, isolated environments. We sign BAAs with all customers and undergo regular security audits.
What clinical note formats are supported?
We support free-text physician notes, structured H&P templates, discharge summaries, operative reports, and progress notes. Upload as PDF, TXT, DOCX, or paste directly. HL7/FHIR integration is on the Phase 4 roadmap for direct EHR feeds.
Does it integrate with our EHR system?
Initially, HCC Medical Coding works as a standalone web application with file upload and copy-paste workflows. EHR integration (Epic, Cerner, athenahealth, Meditech) via FHIR/HL7 APIs is planned for Phase 4. We also offer a REST API for custom integrations.
How much does it cost?
Early access is free during the beta period. Production pricing will be per-encounter or per-provider/month, significantly less than legacy solutions like 3M CodeFinder ($25K+/year). We are building this to be accessible to practices of all sizes.
Do coders need training to use it?
Minimal training needed. The interface is designed for medical coders who already know ICD-10. Upload a note, review suggestions, accept or modify codes, and export. Most coders are productive within 15 minutes. We also provide onboarding guides and support.
How does audit support work?
Every code suggestion is linked to the specific text in the clinical note that supports it. The audit trail includes timestamps, confidence scores, coder decisions (accept/reject/modify), and the supporting clinical evidence. Export audit packages as PDF or CSV for any date range.
What medical specialties are covered?
HCC Medical Coding covers all medical specialties that use ICD-10-CM coding. The NLP engine is trained on notes from internal medicine, cardiology, endocrinology, nephrology, pulmonology, and more. Specialty-specific models are continuously being expanded.
